Important Update Regarding the 2020 Pantry 5K

An Important update regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) for

Fairfield Food Pantry 5K Run/Walk Participants

Thank you for signing up as a participant in the Fairfield Food Pantry’s 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk, which was originally scheduled for March 21st.  I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with the latest update regarding the current Coronavirus situation and how it is affecting the scheduling of this event.

We have delayed our decision on conducting the Run as long as possible in hopes the current COVID-19 situation would improve, but unfortunately, it appears there is no end in sight.  The most recent guidance we received from the State is not to conduct the Run, and we have no choice but to agree. The safety of the runners/walkers, our volunteers and the community as a whole must be our primary concern.  Therefore, we are formally cancelling our 2020 5K Run/Walk.

As a Run participant your support has meant more to us than just being able to conduct our event.  The 5K is the Pantry’s largest annual fundraiser and your participation has made it a success in helping to provide the crucial funding needed to continue serving those most in need.

This year that need has grown significantly.  Through the month of July, the number served by the Pantry has increased 21% over the same period last year – and last year was a record year!  All indications are we will continue to see our numbers increase for the foreseeable future.

This has been, and will continue to be, a challenging situation for our Pantry.  We have already changed the way we serve those in need so we can protect our staff, volunteers and clients, but we have not stopped serving them or reduced our level of support.  If fact, I am proud to report we have not missed a scheduled day of operation since the pandemic began, in spite of the hurdles presented by the virus and growing number in need.

Our bills also continue to grow – not just for food, but for all the other things we now need in greater quantities such as PPE and cleaning supplies.  If you wish to make an additional donation to help us out, please let us know.  Your continued support will help ensure our doors will remain open and we will be able to continue to fight food insecurity in our community.

Please remember, our number one concern is for you and your loved ones to come through this current health crisis healthy and safe.  If you have any questions, feel free to email us at fairfieldfoodpantry@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

 Wayne Krieghoff, Trustee

Chairman, 5K Run/Walk Committee
